This is so easy, it’s crazy. Let’s say you want to open a small business like a restaurant or a gym. What’s stopping you? Most people say they don’t have the money to do it. Here’s the thing, money is not the first thing you need. When you eventually need the money… it will come. This is not some foolish wishful thinking that ends in disappointment. It is the way things work for everyone. Let me explain…
If you went to a rich guy and asked for a loan today, you’d get thrown out of his office before the expresso went cold. Talk is cheap. Action is the key.
First, you need a good location. This doesn’t mean finding an area where there isn’t a gym, as most people think. Actually, you could open a gym right next to another and do extremely well… if yours is better and cheaper. If fact, if you can find a busy gym with old machines, ugly changing rooms, and crappy parking, you need to build your gym as close as possible.
Location means accessibility and parking and optimum square footage. Let’s say you research for a few weeks. You drive around visiting other gyms and looking for vacant rental space. You find the perfect place.
Now it’s time to plan interior. You make a list of everything you’d need. Showers, lockers, reception desk, fitness equipment, air-conditioning, and on and on. You’re going to need staff to run the place. You make estimations about how many people, their total salaries, then you add it to the monthly rent and utility bills.
Now you know the price of the setup & installation along with the monthly costs. What are your membership prices going to be? Once you’ve decided that, you’ll know how many members you’ll need to break even. Time to organize your advertising campaign.
Advertising is a numbers game and the marketing company can tell you what conversions (from viewers to buyers) you need to get, then you’ll get a price quote.
Now it’s time to go back to the rich guy with a deal. You tell him how much it’s going to cost, how many members you expect to have, and how quickly the business will be able to return his investment. You’ll haggle and eventually agree on a partnership then you will both sign a contract and he will sign a check. He pays for everything, you do all the work.
Eventually, the gym is built and hopefully profitable. You are a gym owner, your rich partner profits for doing absolutely nothing, and all is right in the world.
The journey I just described can be soul crushing and take between two and five years depending on how much help you get. If your mindset isn’t right, you won’t make it past the first obstacle, and if you’re not utilizing your natural strengths and abilities it’s unlikely you will reach the finish line.
Before starting any such endeavor, I strongly recommend you read a book called The Key. The Key not only motivates, it gives the steps that every entrepreneur who has ever succeeded went through. The Key will help you rediscover yourself and your strengths, and it will give you an unstoppable mindset and unbreakable patience to make it to the end.
Changing your reality starts with a change from within. If you don’t change your perception of who you are and the world in which you live, you are doomed to have more of the same. Michael Jackson once wrote, “If you wanna make the world a better place…”
If you wanna make YOUR world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change!
